“All the contortions we go through just not to be ourselves for a few hours.”
—Keith Richards
The world’s famous heroin addict the rolling stone guitarist Keith Richards once said about the addiction, his heroin use, that “the contortions you go through just not to be yourself for a few hours.”Why would somebody not want to be themselves? Because at some point it hurts so much to be yourself. Then the mind comes in, trying to keep you from experiencing pain, the pain of being yourself with these ideas, certainties, endless desires, artificial needs... It's a faith to let go. It’s a human defensive structure in response to pain. When it comes to change & vulnerability, the
mind wants to defend against it. It comes significantly out of fear, childhood experiences where the pain you had, wasn't held. The art is the final word.
